MacDonald House

Singapore MacDonald House was the first important office building after the World War II. The building, which even suffered a terrorist attack, incorporated all latest technologies of that time. The ten-storey building of facing bricks is a fascinating sight. The building is located at Orchard Road.
Renovation and Reopening
Macdonald House underwent renovation after the purchase, costing S$12 million. Ceilings, lobby, lifts and floors were upgraded and the car parking facilities were introduced. The building was reopened in 2005 with full occupancy.

Architecture
McDonald House, built in Neo-Georgian style, was the first large office building of the post-war period. It is a concrete structure, clad in light red brickwork of fine detail. It holds the distinction of being the first building in Malaya to be air-conditioned. The building's design allows the natural light into the inner offices.

Concise History
MacDonald House, one of the first multi-storey buildings on the Road, housed the offices of several multinational companies. On 10 March 1965, it was targeted by the terrorists. Three were killed and 33 wounded in the bomb blast. The ten-storey building was put up on sale in 2002, and it was purchased by the successful bidder Tinifia Investment, paying S$36 million. The building was declared a national monument in 2003.
